Chrism Mass 3/29/10

This was M-J+'s first ECC event. I had been privileged to attend a clergy retreat earlier that day, and had just begun to hear the stories of some of them - there were 20 in attendance that day, mostly from the local area but several from out of state as well. And the Chrism Mass took place in the evening. After each clergy was anointed and blessed, we gathered behind the ongoing ritual between bishop and each individual clergy in turn.

M-J+ being blessed and anointed

I hadn't even started the incardination process at this time, but I was invited to walk in the processional and then was blessed, anointed, and renewed my priestly vows. This was very healing for me after several hard months preceding coming to St. Matt's and the ECC. Bp +Peter opened the way for me and I entered a discernment process before officially applying for incardination. Deacon Tony was to my left and Deacon Jerry to my right. These two men were ordained as priests within a couple of months afterward, and I was privileged to attend both services. They are both decades-long servants at St. Matt's and the ECC.

ECC clergy visit St. Junia's House (6/6/10)

Father Greg+ and Deacon Jeannine Singleton (front row) of the ECC Community of St. Francis (Chicago, IL), and Rev. Janine Stock+ (back left), pastor of All Saints American Catholic Church (Vista, CA) visited St. Junia's House and had dinner with M-J+. Janine's partner, Trudy, was also with us, but she took the photo! These are all good folks for picking brains to get recommendations for good books! And their friendship and spiritual insights have contributed to my healing.

+Peter addressing the ordinands

This is at the beginning of the ordination. +Peter describes the biblical history of the development of the diaconate, that it arose historically before presbyters (priests) and even before the elders were called Bishops.

Litany of Saints

While the ordinands are prone, the Litany of Saints is sung. We call upon the Saints to pray for us and especially for our two new deacons.

Presentation to the people of God

The two new deacons are presented to the people of God. For a Saturday afternoon at 4 PM and with the two ordinands both from out of state, we had a pretty good turn-out of folks. There were probably 30-some people present.

Ordinands raising chalices

At St. Matt's, we consecrate both wine and grape juice, so that people have a choice. Elaine and Kedda raise the chalices and +Peter elevates the bread. And our bread is homemade, unleavened whole wheat bread -- none of those styrofoam wafers for us!

Vicar Ned Reidy+

Fr. Ned+ is the ECC Vicar for the Pacific region in the U.S. He holds the distinction of being the only Roman Catholic priest in the U.S. who was tried and excommunicated in absentia, long after he had moved his ministry out of the RCC and into the ECC. You can find information about this on the ECC website under writings of Bp. +Peter who reviewed the documents from the Diocese of San Barnardino (2006, 1997). Ned+ is a very busy man these days, what with processing a large influx of incardinations into the ECC.

Rev. Kathy McCartney+

She was the very first female priest that +Peter ordained ten years ago. She is co-pastor with Fr. Ned+ at the Pathfinders ECC Community, in Bermuda Dunes, CA. Isn't she just lovely? And an inspiration to women and men alike. She was a good "hand-holder" for me through the incardination process.

Father Jon Connor+

Father Jon+ incardinated into the ECC on 7/10/10 and is part of the ministries of All Saints American Catholic Church, an ECC community in Vista, CA with Rev. Janine Stock. Janine+ is happy that she now has someone to write homilies! We joked about "incardination" becoming "incarceration" haha!

Father David Geradot+, Matt, and Bp. +Peter (7/10/10)

We were at dinner after the ordinations, and Matt is happily anticipating his desert after dinner. To his left is Fr. David+, of the Emmaus ECC Catholic Community in Lacey, WA. Fr. David is also a licensed psychologist with prescribing privileges by virtue of his also being an RN. He was originally a priest and an RN in a Roman Catholic religious order, and then earned his Ph.D. He was a delightful dinner companion.
