His royal highness, Hei-Di 8/1/11

Hei-di is chinese for "little black brother." He likes the french doors that look out on the side yard patio and he loves his dog, Boobie!

She is the sweetest little dog, and loves Sundays because she really likes company! She hates the days that I am at the computer writing reports or the days I have to go to jail for work!

Boobie and Hei-Di playing

Little Boobie has been such a gift in the several months that she has lived here. Her "Mom" got a really good job and has moved to Claremont. Boobie stayed here until mom had enough money to pay a pet deposit at the new place. I have demanded joint legal custody, right of first refusal, and visitation rights!

Boobie loves her stuffed animals, including this white cat, and she and Guy would sometimes be pulling on the stuffed animals.

Little Guy, the puppy of Fr. Jim+ and Charlie, visited with us during this week. Guy and our dog, Boobie, are almost exactly the same age, both young vigorous woofs who love to romp and play. These two were immediately best friends and they had a great time! Guy is the white pup and Boobie is the brown woof.

After our Prayer Vigil for Bishop-Elect Armando at St Junia's House, we had dinner and a "happy hour." Mark, the son of Fr. Arturo+ and Kelly, had a great time with the dog belonging to my housemate, +Nina. We have several photos of their play time.

Oops, we caught him!

One of our St. Junia's House men, Joe Stanik, has been traveling during July, 2010 and sending us electronic postcards. This note and picture was received on 7/9/10: Hello, everyone: This photo shows a Coptic monk talking on his cell phone at the tomb of St. Anthony in the Monastery of St. Anthony near the Red Sea. St. Anthony gave up a privileged life for a spiritual one in the 3rd century. He sought solitude in the desert, and his reputation for holiness spread; he was soon surrounded by a huge group of followers, who gradually formed the first Christian monastery. St. Anthony lived to be 105. Best wishes, Joe Joseph T. Stanik, Lt. Cdr., USN (Ret)/NBCT, jstanick@att.net This was funny to me because just that week, our homily had addressed Jesus sending out the 72 to evangelize "bare," taking no provisions with them. I commented to folks about my trip to Dallas, in which I admitted I had not gone "bare," that I had all my electronic gizmos with me, and that I might have accomplished more for Christ if I had not allowed myself to be distracted. But now, I see that I am in good company for dealing with this temptation!

Does he dare 'fess up'?

This cartoon was sent to me by a friend I just couldn't resist posting it!

Cats rule! Hei-Di claims his territory

On 7/18/10, Andrew was bringing his dog, Ruth, with him for Mass. I laid out pads that I keep in the chapel for any visiting 4-legged being to sit with us. My cat, Hei-Di, must have realized that a dog had been invited, so he sat down and claimed his turf until he was banished to the bedroom.

Hei Di (Little black brother)

Hei Di is busy holding down papers on the table. If you're working on the papers, he needs to hold them down for you, to sit on them so that you can't read them!

Fr. Greg Singleton+ wrote in an email about his cat, which applies equally to Hei-Di: Ned, the cat who rules the world (or at least this household) is grateful for nothing. Whatever good comes to him is a matter of entitlement. Indeed, Jeannine and I every morning are required to bow to him upon waking up and chant "Laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te; gratias agimus tibi propter magnum gloriam tuam"

First Advent 11/28/10

I bring out my decorations on 1st Advent, including my St. Nicholas who carries a kitty in his arms. My friend, Virginia, gave me the sign that I placed below him!

Andrew & Ruth

Ruth has quite a story. Six years ago, while Andrew was living in Italy, he found a puppy in the basement of a church, left with a bag of food. He adopted her and named her Ruth, after the biblical figure, Ruth. "Whither thou goest, I will go...."

Andrew's Ruth

This dog is quite a handful! She was all excited and not at all interested in posing for photos! She was really on the move!

Wiggle woof!

I couldn't get her to hold still and look at the camera! She's a darling, and she sat outside the chapel, looking in the french doors during Mass because Andrew didn't trust her to just sit.

Pair of woofies

This pair of siblings, a boy and a girl, named Alphie (my boy) and Willie (my friend, Virginia's girl dog) still live together with her. When I moved out, into my own place in 2007, I left Alphie with his sister, but I visit them both every week. And I am the back-up "mom" when my friends go out of town.
